How can planning policy go beyond minimum requirements to deliver excellence in sustainable development? 

In 2022, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) partnered with sustainability experts Bioregional to develop a Sustainability SPD supporting the Borough Local Plan. Adopted in July 2024, this SPD provides technical guidance on:

• Energy efficiency and carbon reduction
• Sustainable materials and construction
• Climate adaptation and resilience
• Biodiversity enhancement
• Sustainable transport

Since adoption, the SPD has encouraged developers to go beyond policy requirements, setting a new benchmark for sustainable development. Join us to understand the RBWM’s journey, lessons learned, and how the SPD is shaping greener communities. 

The session will include case examples of planning tools in action, followed by a live Q&A.
