Our planet’s climate has always undergone change, although rarely as much or as quickly as now. Exactly how human disruption to Earth’s climate system will impact plant communities in the future is uncertain, but we can glean valuable insights from the past by investigating how ecosystems have responded to millennia of natural climate variations. Plantlife’s Oliver Wilson will introduce palaeoecology, the study of past environments, helping us understand how researchers discover and decode signals from ancient landscapes no human eye has seen. Using examples from the tropics, Oliver will explore how past relationships between plants, people and climate change provide invaluable guides for navigating the future.

Plantlife relies on its members and donors. This event is free but if you would like to donate to support our work you can add an optional donation. The more you give, the more plants we can save. Thank you.
