Mountain plants are beautiful and perfectly adapted to harsh conditions. But can they survive in a rapidly warming world? In the first part of our montane series, Alistair Whyte invites you to scale one of the many Munros found within the Cairngorms National Park. You may be surprised to find the tops of these Munros are a refuge for plants more commonly found in the Arctic. These plants are under threat due to nitrogen deposition, land management practices and climate change. Find out how Plantlife is working with research institutes, volunteers and land managers to help. The future is uncertain for these rare habitats, but with evidence, passion, and a new shared vision for our mountains, we can give them a fighting chance.

Speakers:

Alistair Whyte is the Head of Plantlife Scotland, looking after Plantlife’s projects, advisory work, advocacy and partnership working north of the border, managing Plantlife’s Munsary nature reserve, and raising the profile of wild plant conservation in Scotland. Before joining Plantlife, he spent several years managing nature reserves and working on landscape-scale partnership projects. When not working, he’s usually to be found up a mountain!

Plantlife relies on its members and donors. This event is free but if you would like to donate to support our work you can add an optional donation. The more you give, the more plants we can save. Thank you.
