Fall into nature with Plantlife: Waxcap grasslands - Why we need your help.

We talk about Autumn colour and tend to look up at the leaves, but how many of us are aware of the vibrant colours at our feet? Waxcap fungi are found in grassy places that have had little disturbance and indicate ancient grasslands. They can be found in parks and gardens too. However, the places they are found are disappearing. Come and meet these fungi with wonderful names like pink ballerina and dark purple earthtongue. They will surprise us with their vibrant pink, orange and purple hues. Discover how you can help improve our knowledge of their distribution.

Speakers

Keilidh Ewan is Plantlife's Community Scientist working on the National Lottery Heritage Funded ‘Rare Plants and Wild Connections’ project in the Cairngorms National Park. With a background in conservation communications and engagement, Keilidh supports the project to inspire local communities, landowners and visitors to the Cairngorms to take action for the National Park’s native flora and fungi.

Lucia Chmurova works for Plantlife as Conservation Officer on the Magnificent Meadows Wales Project, which focuses on meadow conservation and outreach, from large-scale National Trust areas to urban hospital grounds. Previously, Lucia worked in London’s Natural History Museum’s insect collections and a number of insect conservation charities including the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and Butterfly Conservation. She now combines her interest in insects and wildflowers with habitat-approach conservation of grasslands and species-rich meadows across Wales.


Bruce Langridge

Bruce is the Head of Interpretation at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. A former field botanist and museum curator, he has also helped to manage and promote pastures of international importance for waxcap fungi on the Botanic Garden's Waun Las National Nature Reserve.
