My art work draws inspiration from plants, evolutionary biology and science. I consider human impact, past and present, on our natural environment’. I explore art as a possible tool to instigate social and environmental change. Past projects and exhibitions include Coventry Biennial, ArcadeCampfa (Cardiff), Silent Stage (Lithuania), G39 (Cardiff, with Roger Lougher), Oriel Myrddin (Carmarthen), Oriel Davies (Newtown), the Jerwood Space (London), Lokaal01 (Antwerp, Belgium) and the Weizzmann Institute of Science (Israel).
Influenced by botany, archeology, traditional skills and cultural stories I make work which explores our changing relationship with the natural world around us examining the link between our inner selves and the outer physical landscape. I have recently received an MA in Art and Social Practice from UHI. Projects/exhibitions include ‘Daughters of Penelope’ at Dovecot, Edinburgh, ‘A layered land’ Timespan, Helmsdale, ‘flora’ Oriel Davies, Wales, ‘Naked craft’, Canada , ‘Vassen susar’, Finland, with residencies in Norway, Denmark and Finland.
Nessie Ramm is on a mission to paint the road verges of Britain in exquisite botanical detail onto metal road signs; to render visible the beauty of these unloved wild spaces.
Plantlife relies on its members and donors. This event is free but if you would like to donate to support our work you can add an optional donation. The more you give, the more plants we can save. Thank you.
