Ayisha Malik: Advanced Narrative Techniques
How do you want your reader to feel? What techniques can you use to facilitate this? How do you interweave interiority with action, pacing the drama for a satisfying reading experience? This two-hour workshop will look at experimenting with techniques such as texturing, pacing and show don't tell to allow space for your reader to absorb and connect to your narrative, and the themes of your novel.
Ayisha Malik is the author of several critically acclaimed novels. These include Sofia Khan is Not Obliged, Sofia Khan and the Baby Blues, Other Half of Happiness, and This Green and Pleasant Land. She was a WHSmith Fresh Talent Pick and Sofia Khan was a London CityReads choice in May 2019. Her contributions have included, A Change is Gonna Come, A Matchmade in Heaven and the Sunday Times bestselling Conversations in Love.
She has written a re-telling of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park – part of Hachette’s Awesomely Austen children’s series – and a children’s book Seven Sisters. Ayisha is winner of The Diversity Book Awards and has been shortlisted for the Asian Women of Achievement Award, Marie Claire’s Future Shapers Awards and h100’s Awards for Publishing and Writing. Her fourth adult novel, The Movement, is to be published in July 2022. Sofia Khan is not Obliged and This Green and Pleasant Land have both been optioned for television.
