Finding the Funny: The Craft of Comedy Writing with John Vorhaus
What
makes something funny - and how can you learn to do it consistently?
Join acclaimed comedy writer, author and teacher John Vorhaus for a Q&A
exploring the craft of comedy writing. Best known for his classic book The
Comic Toolbox: How to Be Funny Even if You’re Not, John has taught writers
in 40 countries across six continents and created television shows
internationally, alongside an extensive career writing teleplays, screenplays,
novels and non-fiction.
In this session, John will share insights from his experience in the industry,
exploring what makes comedy work, how writers can develop their comic
instincts, create memorable characters, build humour into their stories and
find fresh ways to make audiences laugh. There will also be an opportunity to
ask John your own questions and gain practical advice to take into your
writing.
Whether you're writing comedy for television, film or other formats, or simply
want to bring more humour into your storytelling, this is an opportunity to
learn from an experienced practitioner who understands both the theory and
practice of making people laugh.
