Jen Calleja: Writing Creatively About Art
In this workshop we will engage with artworks in a myriad of ways through fictional, poetic and at times experimental forms. We'll use art as a jumping off point to write about our lives, as a setting for our writing, and even provoke it to be 'in dialogue' and 'speaking for itself'. We'll also use art to help us think about building a picture through words and to create strong voices and characters.
Jen Calleja is the author of Goblinhood: Goblin as a Mode, Vehicle, Dust Sucker, I’m Afraid That’s All We’ve Got Time For, and Serious Justice. She is a literary translator from German of authors including Wim Wenders, Marion Poschmann, Gregor Hens and Michelle Steinbeck shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize. Jen is the co-founder of Praspar Press, a micro-publisher created to support contemporary Maltese literature written in English and English translation.
Jen runs a Substack and has been interviewed on Tender Buttons and in Granta , La Piccioletta Barca, and The Modernist Review.
