Donatello: The Renaissance

Donatello was arguably the single most influential artist of the Italian Renaissance - a statement I am whole-heartedly happy to endorse, and the basic premise of the exhibition which will open at the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence on 19 March this year. According to the Palazzo's website, "This historic, once-in-a-lifetime exhibition sets out to reconstruct the outstanding career of one of the most important and influential masters of Italian art of any age, juxtaposing his work with masterpieces by other Italian Renaissance masters such as Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Andrea Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Raphael and Michelangelo." I for one can't wait to visit the exhibition and will ready to talk about the ideas it expounds and the works which are shown after I've had a little time to let it settle in. The exhibition takes place across two venues: as well as the Palazzo Strozzi, there will also be a section at the Bargello, the sculpture museum in Florence. The talk on 11 April will cover the works in the first venue: I'm planning to schedule another date for the Bargello later on... Watch this space!

Please note: I do not record my talks.
