The Printmaker's Art:

Rembrandt to Rego
at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh,
until 25 February 2024
1: From Rembrandt...
Over Christmas and into the New Year the National Galleries of Scotland are hosting a wide-ranging exhibition of prints. Although I haven't seen the exhibition yet, I thought this would be an ideal opportunity to think about the wide variety of techniques and materials which have been used over the centuries, and for us all learn the difference between engraving and etching, drypoint and aquatint, not just in terms of technique, but also in the appearance of the finished work - and what better way to do this than by looking at the work of the greatest masters of the craft?

Without pinning myself down too much, the first talk will cover the early works, and the second, the more modern. The exhibition starts with Durer, and brings us up to the present day - but for sake of alliteration they have highlighted Rembrandt and Rego, who I will therefore also use to distinguish the two talks. They will stand alone as individual lectures, or you can book both together at a small discount.

Please remember, I do not record my talks.
