Poussin and the Dance
The exhibition running at the National Gallery until 2 January 2022 is the first to be dedicated to this subject, and I can't imagine it being any better. As well as gathering together a wonderful selection of the master's own works, it also includes much of his source material, and demonstrates how this apparently most staid of artists knew how to move, and even, from time to time, let down his hair. If you already like his work, this talk will be perfect for you, but if, like me, you have always been wary, this exhibition is sure to bring you round. Featuring as it does one of his great masterpieces, Dance to the Music of Time, seen outside the Wallace Collection for the first ever time, we will also have the opportunity to discuss this intriguing work in depth.
Unlike other organisations, I'm afraid my talks are not recorded. This is, in part, because I am not an organisation!
