The Development of David

Michelangelo’s David is one of the most famous sculptures in the world, but however original it may appear, it is the end result of a process which lasted over a century. We will look at the character of David as he appears in the bible to try and explain how Michelangelo has chosen to depict him – is this a shepherd boy or king? - and look at the history and art history of Florence during the 15th Century to discover the earlier events and works of art which influenced this masterpiece.
