£10
Forbidden Fruits
Inspired by the floral details in a remarkable recent discovery of a painting by Caterina Angelo Pierozzi, a 17th Century artist whose work is documented but believed to have been lost, even destroyed, in its entirely, Colnaghi, 'the first commercial art gallery in the world', has mounted a small, but focussed display of still life paintings by women who painted still life. Using this display as out starting point, we will expand its scope by looking at other works by the artists represented - including Rachel Ruysch, Clara Peeters, Giovanna Garzoni and Fede Galizia - as well as paintings by other women, thus questioning what is was about still life that made it popular with female artists - if, indeed, it was!
