Families have the right to make decisions about their well-being, their health, and their children without fear of separation or surveillance. However, the reality is that many people are not always able to make decisions about their bodies and their families and their children without government intervention and violence and they should feel equipped to fight that. There are many different ways that parents, advocates, attorneys, birthworkers, and doulas can support families that experience state violence and threats of separation by CPS. This conversation is meant to provide a space to discuss the different ways that CPS causes harm and how families can protect themselves and their children if they have interactions with CPS . We will also discuss how advocates and community members can show up for families that experience this criminalization and minimize harm so that families can remain together and fight for familial integrity.
