Cajun to Canadian

Are you Cajun? Did you know we are eligible for Canadian citizenship under a new law passed in December? In fact, we are already Canadian citizens by descent! There is no generational limit.

The challenge to formally claiming citizenship is proving your direct connection—generation by generation—to an ancestor born in what is now Canada. Because families were separated and records were lost during the expulsion, that can be hard to do. I've learned a few tips and tricks during my own journey that I'd love to share. Plus, we will all benefit if we can team up on some of the same ancestors.
