Smithville, the Hardest Case I've Ever Solved
"Midge" had an unknown father and great matches! I could immediately tell that her father was from "Smithville." That wasn't the problem. The problem was that half the town were Smiths, they were all related, and Smithville’s local pastime appeared to be extramarital sex. Of Midge’s top three paternal matches at AncestryDNA, two had misattributed parents. A similar pattern emerged in her 23andMe matches. I had no idea which trees were correct.
It took six years to solve Midge's case. I could never have done it without two major advances in genetic genealogy: BanyanDNA and Ancestry's Pro Tools. Join me in this case study to learn how each piece was eventually put into the puzzle and to develop the skills to solve more complex cases yourself.
Attendance is limited to ensure that you will have opportunities to ask questions during and after the talk. Registered participants will have access to the recording for 2 weeks. Captioning available, and a handout is included.
