A 90 min walk around the Old Town Brighton

The Old Town or Lanes area of Brighton preserves much of its 17th century street pattern, a rare example in 21st century Britain.

We will look at the Continuity & Change of the area over time and seek out evidence of its varied economic and social patterns. We end the walk in the central area near bus routes…and bars!

A 90 min walk around New Shoreham

New Shoreham grew in the 13th century as a response to the changing nature of the river Adur mouth; this walk takes us through the street pattern near the historic St. Mary de Haura church and then across the river to study the physical landscape of the beach and its human landscape of houseboats and plotland development. We end up in the High Street convenient for buses and the train station.
